Is Medical Marijuana Legalized in Kentucky?

Yes! Kentucky's medical marijuana program will officially launch January 2025. Kentucky residents can get certified for their medical cards starting December 1st, 2024.

Kentucky Medical Card Requirements

You must be a Kentucky resident. There is no age requirement, however patients under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to register as their caregiver.

  • Chronic or severe pain
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • ​Any type or form of cancer
  • Epilepsy or other intractable seizure disorder
  • Multiple sclerosis, muscle spasms, or spasticity
  • Chronic nausea or cyclical vomiting syndrome
If you have one of the qualifying medical conditions with proof (such as medical records, pill bottles, office visit summaries, or a letter from a doctor stating your diagnosis), then you are most likely ready to be seen and certified by our doctor once the program is officially up and running.
 
While medical documentation is not necessarily required to get certified for a KY medical card, we recommend obtaining anything that helps prove your condition to increase your chances of being approved by the doctor.

Our provider in KY will evaluate you based on your current health condition, medical history, and any documentation you are able to provide as proof to determine if you qualify for an Kentucky medical card.

Once certified, you will be able to apply for your medical card through the state starting January 1st, 2025.

There are 2 steps to getting your medical card in Kentucky:

  1. Get certified by a provider for your KY medical card at one of our clinic locations (Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Owensboro, or Covington).
  2. Register with the state of Kentucky as a medical marijuana patient once the program goes live on January 1st, 2025.

Once your application has been approved by the state, you will receive your Kentucky medical marijuana card electronically. You can then access dispensaries to purchase medical cannabis once they're open with products available.

The cost to be certified by our provider is $199. There is also an additional $25 application fee that will be paid directly to the state when registering as a medical marijuana patient.

You will need a valid photo ID and if available, proof of your qualifying medical condition such as medical records, a letter from your doctor, or prescription pill bottles.

Keep in mind that proof of your qualifying condition is required to get certified.
