What’s Next After Being Approved by the Doctor

You are not required to register yourself as a medical marijuana patient in Tennessee.  Once your certifying doctor has issued your recommendation for medical cannabis, you can immediately start possessing cannabis products with less than 0.9% THC legally.

 

Are there medical marijuana dispensaries in Tennessee?

There are no medical cannabis dispensaries in Tennessee.  Patients with a recommendation for medical cannabis are expected to obtain these products from other states.  Once the products are in the state they are considered legal to possess and consume as long as they have less than 0.9% THC and are labeled accordingly.

You are required to be re-evaluated by a doctor and obtain an updated medical marijuana recommendation once every six (6) months to continue legally possessing and consuming low THC oil products.  The cost for a renewal consultation with our doctor is $150.

 

What is a medical marijuana caregiver?

A caregiver is a Tennessee resident age 18 or over who is designated by a medical marijuana patient to be able to possess medical cannabis on behalf of the patient.  They are also designated to help dispense and administer medical cannabis for the patient.  They must be an immediate family member.

 

How do I register as a caregiver?

There is no registration for caregivers.  Caregivers will need to be given a medical cannabis recommendation letter stating their relationship to the patient.

 

Will anyone be able to find out that I have obtained my Tennessee medical marijuana card?

No, as a medical patient you are protected by HIPAA.  We make the privacy and security of our patients’ confidential information a top priority.  No one will be able to find out your status as a medical marijuana patient unless you openly tell them or if you are administered a drug screening.

 

Can my employer still administer a marijuana drug screening if I am a Tennessee medical cardholder?

Yes.  There is not currently any legislation in place that provides medical marijuana patients protection in the workplace from either receiving drug screenings or receiving disciplinary action regarding the results of a drug screening. For this reason, we recommend making sure you are fully aware of your employer’s policy regarding drug screenings and medical marijuana before moving forward with the process.
