Benefits of Having a Medical Cannabis Card in Colorado

Even if you live in a recreational-use state, there are several advantages to becoming a medical marijuana patient.

Fewer Restrictions

Recreational cannabis is typically limited to patients over 21 years of age and comes with strict possession limits. As a medical marijuana patient, you face fewer restrictions and have more freedom to access your medication in greater quantities.

Greater Selection

A medical marijuana card affords you the privilege of shopping in both medicinal and adult-use dispensaries. Greater access means more products to choose from and more freedom to compare prices and find the best deals.

More Protection

Some recreational-use states still allow employers, landlords, and family courts to discriminate against cannabis users. A medical marijuana certification provides you with legal documentation demonstrating that your use is medically warranted. This can protect you against discriminatory or punitive actions in many states.

Better Prices

As a medical marijuana patient, you won’t be subject to the same sales or excise taxes required of recreational buyers. You may be able to save 10% or more on every purchase.

Colorado Medical Marijuana Certification Process

The certification process in Colorado is similar to many other medical states. Patients will need to obtain a Physician Written Certification Form from a licensed medical marijuana doctor first in order to apply with the state for a medical card.

  • 1
Schedule an appointment with a licensed medical marijuana doctor.
  • 2
Speak with the doctor to find out if you qualify.
  • 3
Obtain your written certification form and apply with the state.
  • 4
Get your electronic medical marijuana ID card and start purchasing at dispensaries!

The first step in getting your CO medical marijuana card is to be evaluated and certified by a state-licensed medical cannabis doctor.

It can sometimes be difficult for patients to find a doctor who will certify them. Our clinics will be open soon and we will also be offering online telemedicine evaluations for renewals, making the search for a physician easy for you.

If you believe that you have one of the qualifying medical conditions and have at least one type of proof, then you will most likely qualify. Our doctor can evaluate you, review any medical documentation you are able to provide, and issue your certification so that you can apply for your card.

After you’ve been approved by a Colorado medical marijuana doctor, your next step is to submit a medical cannabis patient application to the state.  To apply, you’ll need:

· A medical marijuana certification issued by a licensed cannabis doctor.

· A valid Colorado ID or driver’s license.

· $25 application fee payable by credit/debit or check.

Our doctor will issue your certification form on the same day.  You will then be able to submit a medical marijuana patient application to the state along with the required documentation and $25 application fee.  If your application is accepted, you will immediately be able to access and print your medical card from your online patient portal. Your card is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued, and you should renew your card at least 30 days prior to the expiration date. If you’re having trouble, the state can be reached for registration assistance at 303-692-2184 or you can contact our call center 7 days per week at 877-242-0362.
