What Will You Find in Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in Ohio?

Ohio dispensaries carry cannabis flowers, edibles, tinctures, capsules, vape oils, marijuana concentrates, and other common formulations. Cannabis flowers sold in Ohio fall into one of two classes of potency:

  • Tier 1: Plant material with 23% THC or less
  • Tier 2: Plant material with 23% to 25% THC

In a 90-day period, a patient may purchase no more than 8 ounces of Tier 1 plant material and no more than 5 and 3/10 ounces of Tier 2 plant material. Terminally ill patients may purchase more. Other purchase limits are as follows:

  • Concentrated oils (70% THC max.): 53.1 grams of THC in a 90-day period.
  • Edibles and tinctures: 9.9 grams of THC in a 90-day period.
  • Ointments and creams: 26.55 grams of THC in a 90-day period.

How Much Does Medical Marijuana Cost in Ohio?

Ohio medical marijuana prices tend to be slightly above the national average. This is because the program is still fairly new and because most cannabis must be grown in costly indoor facilities. Still, the average price of marijuana has fallen over the past couple of years, and it’s becoming easier to find flower products for less than $15 per gram.

How to Gain Access to Ohio Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

To become a patient, you’ll need to:

  • Obtain a written certification from a state-licensed physician. The certification must confirm that you have a qualifying medical condition and would benefit from medicinal marijuana.
  • Register with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and pay the $50 registration fee ($25 for caregivers).
  • Create an account with the Patient Registry.
  • Download your Ohio medical marijuana card.

When you become a registered patient, you don’t just gain access to every dispensary in the state. You also protect yourself from criminal charges and prosecution in the event that you’re stopped by law enforcement (so long as you’re carrying your medicine in accordance with state law).

Your medical marijuana card must be renewed annually.
